Sometimes we find beauty in the most unsuspecting of places. And on a warm day late in May I found exactly that, in my front yard of all places. I walked outside to stretch the old bones when I noticed a small patch of weeds that was being wonderfully lit by the evening light. Certainly nothing as exotic as a waterfall in the rain forest, but beauty is beauty no matter where it is found. Often times we forget that there is an amazing world surrounding us. And it isn’t always to remind ourselves of that. Hopefully this can serve as a reminder to some of us, me included, that we need not always travel far to find beauty in this world.

I’m again trying to expand my repertoire. There were a number of things that I wanted to share with the viewer with this shot. One of my obsessions is depth of field, and I tried to maximize that with a telephoto lens at the closest possible focus point with a background that wasn’t cluttered. I also wanted to try and capture the light that I was seeing firsthand and its impacts, namely the texture. I again was attempting to use the zone method to get the right exposure.
